On a 93-degree day in Atlanta, it’s easy to choose the pool over my bike. But this summer, I pledged to ride more, and that means having the right gear.
After an exhaustive online search and multiple try-ons/returns, I found the perfect summer jacket – the Spidi Summer Net Women’s Jacket. Light and airy and the best-fitting riding jacket I’ve ever owned!
The best thing is that FIT – it actually feels like it was made for a woman, and is not just a ‘shrink & pink’ version of a man’s coat. The princess seams and waist cinch belt are snug and flattering. The sleeves are long enough to actually reach the handlebars, and side zippered gussets allow for freedom in the hip area. And no big logos, curley-cue designs or other ostentatious features other manufacturers seem to think we want.
The material is lightweight but obviously quality, with two mesh layers that allow all the air to flow through (hallelujah.) The Summer Net includes comfortable internal CE protectors in arms and shoulders, and reflective details.
A few suggestions to the manufacturer- the back inner pocket for a back protector apparently is made only for Spidi’s model; the sleeve doesn’t hold the one I already have, so I’ll have to sew in a modification. Also – MORE POCKETS! The two front zippered ones are great, but inside there’s only a small flimsy pocket with a patch of velcro to close; hardly secure. [Luckily I have my awesome Ukoala bag to carry all my essentials!]
Also, the “Ice” color is not white; it’s more of an ecru or off-white, but it’s grown on me.
Overall, a fantastic jacket and I look forward to a long, hot summer of riding!
